We enjoyed a great Lania Lanes event this month! On the evening of the eve of the event we took the decision to expand the shop and we are glad we did because the shop was packed out on both days - the original little shop would not have coped with the numbers of customers and visitors. The new expanded shop has been such a success that we are keeping it that way. Who knows... perhaps we will have to expand again in the future. :)
One of the highlights of the Lania calendar is the "Open Lanes and Courtyards" event which is taking place this coming weekend, the 11th and 12th of May. Held since 2006 it is a once a year opportunity to peek behind the courtyard gates, stroll around the village lanes, and meet some of the residents of the village in extremely convivial surroundings.
Lania is one of the 14 Commandaria villages. and this year, the organisers of the Lania Lanes event have produced a small book of local recipes - ‘Cooking with Commandaria’. Commandaria, made from sundried grapes, is a dessert wine with a rich flavour, aroma and history. It is believed to be the oldest wine in the world, probably made as early as 3,500 B.C.. In Lusignan times, it was produced for the Knights of Richard the Lionheart – La Grande Commandarie, from which it takes its name. Production is controlled, with no chemicals or irrigation permitted. It tastes delicious and we are sure the food in these recipes will too! The booklet will be on sale at The Boutique and other venues during ‘Lanes & Courtyard' event.
The event kicks off at 11am on Saturday and Sunday and runs through until the early evening on both days. Come and pop in to The Boutique and say hello - our courtyard will be open and all are welcome!
In the meantime enjoy some photos from previous years...
